About

About.  I guess just in case someone who doesn't know me happens upon this page I should introduce myself.  And maybe those who do know me will learn something new.  Either way I hope that God is glorified and my reader is blessed.

My name is Peggy Von Hagen and I am a Christian first and foremost.  Then I am a wife, mother, home educator, and home maker--and all the things that go along with that (maid, cook, nurse, etc.).  I have also been making soap for several years and hope to sell some through this blog.

I have been a Christian for over 30 years!!  Wow!!  I met Jesus Christ and put my faith in Him when I was 16 years old.  Jesus is the reason for my existence.  He created me, and He saved me.  He sustains me.  He is everything to me and what I am all about.  But, this isn't always obvious, because I am a sinner, and I am constantly drifting, wandering, seeking joy in other things.  This is idolatry, and of that I am guilty.  But God.  He is forgiving, merciful, gracious, kind, compassionate. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.  Though I am faithless He remains faithful.

Wife, mother, homemaker.  These words are so intertwined that it is difficult to define one without the other.  My faithful husband is my knight in shining armour, he is my protector and provider.  He does a great job and takes his job very seriously.  He didn't ride up on his white horse and snatch me to safely, he rode up on his yellow bike and the rest is history!  I do feel that he rescued me because I was in need of a husband!  I know that is so non feminist, but I am not a feminist.  I need my husband, and he needs me.  We are one.  As I grow in my role and wife and mother, I can truly see that this is what I was created for.

And the two became one and now we are 7!  I am a mom because I have a husband.  And I am so thankful that we both have always wanted everything, in the way of children, that God would give us.  Actually we grew into this, but I am so thankful that we grew together. We met a little later in life, when fertility starts to wane, but God still made a way for us to bring about 5 little cherubs! And now we have one more on the way, he is 3 and in Uganda!  Can't wait to meet him and join him to our family!

I do miss the baby days.  I love reading blogs about birth, breastfeeding and cloth diapering!  Those were some of my passions back then.  And naps and bike rides around the block.  It was such a simple time, but it was tiring.  I don't know if I had a full night's sleep for 10 years!

Home education.  I love this and am soooo thankful for it, thankful beyond measure, even on the days when I am ready to march every one of them down to the local schools (we would be going to three of them.).  Yes, there are hard days, and then there are wonderful days.  God ordains them all, and I am thankful for them.  I am thankful that my kids don't have to battle peer pressure every day.  I am thankful that they can be who they are, I am thankful that they can play outside for a good portion of the day.  I am thankful that they can learn at their own pace.  I am thankful that they can explore their interests.  There is so much about homeschooling that I love, but it can also be draining, monotonous, boring, and stressful.  I, and my husband, are completely responsible for our kid's education--that can be a scarey thought.  But God!  So thankful for Him, because my kids are His, He loves them and has a plan for each one of them, and He is using me as part of that plan.  Ahhhh, I can rest in Him.

Soap maker.  I love to make natural soap and decided to sell it about one year ago as a way to earn some funds for our upcoming trip to Uganda.  Our whole family will be going, and it would be nice to not have to completely drain our savings for this, although we are prepared to as we feel this is the direction God is leading us.  Also, though, expenses continue to increase as our kids get older, especially as we look to college!  How do people afford that???  So, we'll see how the Lord chooses to bless it or not.  It's up to Him.

So, that's me.  There's so much I would like to say on these topics, and hopefully I will through this blog.  I would love to tell you more about what God is teaching me, more about my family, more about why I love home made soap and natural skin care products, more about homeschooling now that three of my kids are teens, more about adoption, etc.  And hopefully my stories and thoughts will encourage someone, not because I have anything profound to say, but just because I am another person finding grace along the path of life.
