The TONIC!!

Chills, aches, sleepies??  Time to....take...the TONIC!

When I begin to feel sickness, I "take the tonic".  This recipe was given to me by my friend Stephani.  I am not exactly sure where she got it,  maybe she created it, I'm not sure, but I have found it effective.  The key is--you have to drink it!  There's no guarantee, but it has worked for me many times.

Here's the recipe.

Stephani's Tonic

1 1/2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar (it has to be apple cider vinegar, preferably with the "mother"-- a topic for another discussion)
1/2 tsp dried pepper flakes (I have also used ground pepper flakes.)
1/4 cup water
1 tsp honey
juice from 1/2 orange or grapefruit (I have used orange juice from concentrate, too.)

Mix it all up and swig it down.  You might want to have an extra glass of water handy, the peppers can be a little hot if you are not used to them.

Why does this work?

Apple Cider Vinegar is rich in malic acid which gives it its anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Red Pepper Flakes--contain vitamins A, B-6, E,  and the minerals iron, potassium, magnesium and phosphorus.  A great immune system booster.
Citrus--rich in Vitamin C.
Honey--kills bacteria, and sweetens the tonic just a bit!
